A force with a vision and dream for Nigeria, and Africa.
Dr. Herbert O. Wigwe was deeply intertwined with the success of ART X Lagos. We celebrate his pioneering spirit and strong belief in the power of art. He championed ART X Lagos, firmly believing that people aware of their history and heritage could hold the power to shape their future. As the CEO of Access Bank in 2016, he embraced Tokini Peterside-Schwebig's vision for a platform connecting visual art with other creative expressions, accessible and open to all. His unwavering support, amplified by Access Bank's commitment, propelled the fair's growth beyond The Civic Centre and expanded the Access ART X Prize for emerging artists. Dr. Wigwe's annual opening speeches, where he urged us to ”keep engaging regardless of how things are in Nigeria” and to dream ”bigger and better”, now guide ART X Lagos. His legacy as a true friend to ART X Lagos, and catalyst for the arts will endure. Thank you very much Sir.
