Visitors were invited to time travel at The Library, a pan-African portal between the past and present. They found rare and important books, magazines, films, and music from Nigeria, Africa and its diasporas, learning about how history shapes our world. In 2024, we delved deeper into archives and research, experiencing first-hand the power of interdisciplinary approaches.
The second edition of The Library featured contributions from Lagos-based Guest Artists Space (G.A.S.) Foundation, focusing on its library and Picton archive, showcasing significant books and rare printed matter. Visitors also explored a collection of treasured first-edition copies of Black Orpheus, the groundbreaking 1960s art and literary journal, courtesy of Kọ́lá Túbọ̀sún and OlongoAfrica. In addition to films, they encountered music, and thought-provoking ideas on shaping paths towards promised lands. The Library was where inspiration took root and connections bloomed. Visitors explored, listened, and sparked their ideas and creativity.
The Library was curated by Missla Libsekal – Curator-at- Large. Contributors included: G.A.S. Foundation, OlongoAfrica, Lanre Masha – ART X Live! Music Curator, Tega Okiti – ART X Cinema Curator, and Jumoke Sanwo – ART X Talent Advancement Programs Curator.
