ABOUT
Sea Never Dry takes its title from Akinbode Akinbiyi’s remarkable long-term photographic series, begun in 1982, which so sensitively chronicles the rhythms of life at Bar Beach; once a vital social and cultural site in Lagos, and now irrevocably altered by the Eko Atlantic reclamation project. For decades, Bar Beach embodied the collective life of the city: a space of leisure, ritual, political assembly, and even moments of profound national reckoning. Its disappearance, subsumed by urban transformation, continues to resonate as a poignant reminder of both memory and erasure within Lagos’s shifting urban landscape.
